If there is just one whisky that is well known throughout Asia pacific as a top quality scotch whisky then it has to be the Chivas whisky. This premium whisky is created by the Chivas borthers which consequently is bought by Pernod Ricard. Chivas whisky presently is the economy leader in whiskies aged 12 years or more. In fact the sales have been completely gradually expanding coming from the year 2002 to 2011.
Chivas Regal Scotch whisky was first created in the year 1801 in Aberdeen, Scotland at the Strathisla Distillery in the Speyside region of Scotland.
There are primarily three main whiskies out of this family and they are Chivas Regal 12 year old, Chivas Regal 18 year old and Chivas Regal 25 year old. The 12 year old mixed with whisky offers whisky bourbon a taste that reminds you about honey and ripe apples even while on the palate it comes across as being round and creamy. There are even suggestions of hazelnut and butterscotch in the taste. The 18 year old blended with whisky is aged for at least 18 years before it is bottled and tastes of orange and chocolates. On the smell it feels citrus, spices and fruits. While on the palate you get spicy taste. Chivas Regal 25 year old is matured for 25 years or more and tastes of apricot and peach.
There is long background behind this well-known drink. It was first initiated by the Chivas brothers in the year 1801. They started out a shop that sold spices, Caribbean rum, coffee, and other food stuff to wealthy buyers. In the year 1842 immediately after the visit of Queen Victoria to Scotland they were required to provide groceries to the royal family at Balmoral Castle. And in the year 1843 they were awarded the sought after royal warrant to supply items to the Queen.
As their standing expanded, shoppers often potential and affluent, would ask them to provide smooth whisky. Therefore, in the year 1850 James Chivas launched to blend whiskies to create smooth whisky that would meet his affluent consumers taste. He created a proprietary brand Chivas Brothers and manufactured the first blended with scotch whisky “Royal Glen Dee. This had been soon pursued by another whisky the “Royal Strathythan”.
By the early 1900s the economy in the U.S was booming and to capture this market the Chivas brothers chose to create an aged whisky and it was named Chivas Regal. In the year 1909 Chivas Regal 25 year old had been announced and high quality brand and eventually seized the imagination of the Americans. They persisted to appreciate excellent success till prohibition put a spoke in the wheel in 1920.
Seagrams purchased the Chivas Regal brand in the year 1949 and used their tremendous marketing and sales network to further introduce this high quality whisky. Once the prohibition was lifted and the Second World War ended Chivas launched their 12 year old. Right now Chivas Regal had become very popular and had a large loyal customer base. Among its extremely famous customers was the well-known Frank Sinatra.
Once the 20th century ended they already had 18 year old and 25 year old added to their list. As a result of the separation of the Seagrams Group, Chivas was purchased by Pernod Ricard in the year 2000 and it remains to be with them to this day.
Chivas whisky seems to have consistently performed well and includes received a number of awards and medals at spirits competitions. For the San Francisco World spirit competition it garnered the gold medal in the year 2006 and 2008.
